The IR-20L Carbon Dioxide Monitor uses the Non-Dispersive Infrared sensing method to provide continuous and stable monitoring for carbon dioxide concentrations in the range of 0-20,000 PPM. This model has internal temperature and humitidy sensors, which are used to compense for changing background conditions. This model features an internal pump, which can be used in combination with an extendable probe, for confined space or remote sampling.

The output is 4x16 character LCD. During operation, the current date and time, battery status, memory status, and alarm state are displayed. The carbon dioxide concentration is displayed at a resolution of 1 PPM and updated every 2 seconds. This output interval of 2 seconds is independent from the data logging interval. The data logging interval has a range of 2 seconds to 10 minutes, which can easily be adjusted prior to use. The initial date and time is recorded with each set of data points.

The instrument uses internal rechargeable batteries as the power source, providing over 8 hours of operating time between charges. The AC adapter can also be used for continuous monitoring of longer than 8 hours.
